Many signals. More understanding.
Our AI roadmap explores two distinct challenges: making seismic data understandable, and investigating earthquake-like motion across participating devices.
Useful AI starts with verified data.
We are exploring Claude as a contextual explanation layer. The goal is to help people understand recorded events, not to invent events or predict future earthquakes.
?Why might I have felt this earthquake?
?What does the reported depth mean?
?How does it compare with recent regional activity?
- 01Verified seismic sources
- 02Normalization & validation
- 03Structured event context
- 04Claude API · planned
- 05Grounded, multilingual explanations
Planned safeguards include source attribution, timestamps, uncertainty, refusal when data is insufficient, and curated official safety references. Claude is a proposed integration; no partnership or live integration is claimed.
A single moving phone is not an earthquake.
Our research concept asks whether consenting devices could help identify earthquake-like motion after physical motion begins. A signal would become a candidate, not an alert.
- 01Phone sensors
- 02Local motion features
- 03Noise filtering
- 04ML classification
- 05Anonymous candidate
- 06Multi-device correlation
- 07Location & time checks
- 08Confidence scoring
- 09Seismic source verification
- 10Confirm or reject
The research would compare signals from nearby devices: time, approximate location, motion frequency and duration, device orientation and background movement. A confidence score would guide confirmation or rejection, with checks against known seismic records.
A validated event could eventually inform an awareness notification. This remains a research concept, with no guarantee of detection or warning lead time.
Participation should be a choice.
Design principles for future sensing research, not guarantees of an implemented sensor network.
- Explicit opt-in and transparent controls
- Minimum necessary data
- Anonymized signals where technically possible
- Approximate location where sufficient
- Aggregated event validation
- Secure transmission and battery-aware sensing
